One of the initial readings, Inclusive Journalism (Ross, 2014), introduces the idea that ‘the health and survival of your news organisation…depends on your ability to capture the fullest range of voices’.

This chapter highlights the tendency for news editors to ‘pitch to the dominant group’ which can also be the case when studying journalism.

I have found that, often, academics refer to ‘the reader’ as if the audience of news is one homogenous group, which can be problematic and often ethnocentric.

Over the course of this semester, I would like to see if I can diversify my portfolio and broaden my sources through some of the techniques that Ross suggests.
